The Americans wanted to sepárate themselves from such awful people. At first, like previously mentioned above, the spaniards would work the Indians to death so Bartolomé then said why not African slaves instead which introduced the idea that slavery should be based on race because African slaves work harder than Indian slaves. Bartolomé later tried to save himself saying that slavery should be abolished but the european government did not listen to him. Bartolomé worked until he was dead to abolish African slavery. 500 years later people pushed for that to happen and now they are second-class citizens.
